Changes to Data Protection legislation

WSTA Report reactions - West of England Wine School

There are more stringent Data Protection Act changes coming into force in May. We have a legal requirement to make sure that we have the correct permissions to use your data. Nothing else has changed, except to ask for your explicit permission to continue doing what we are already doing. Many of you who are on our mailing list have already responded to give us this permission, either by ticking a box on membership or course application forms, or by mailing us. If you haven’t, please read the following statement of our data usage…

The only data which WoEWSA holds about people is name, title, postal and email address, membership type (student, individual, company etc.) and company (where relevant). This is used primarily for sending out details of our tastings and events and to manage bookings for those events. We will also occasionally notify members of other wine related matters (e.g. job vacancies, external wine events) which we think may be of interest. Details on the mailing list will never be released to any third parties without the explicit permission of the individual concerned.

…and send an email to with the text ‘I am happy for you to hold my details based on the club’s defined usage.’

We need to have this approval from you or we won’t be able to send you WoEWSA emails after May.  Thank you.
