Ken Thomas

It is with regret that we inform you of the death of Ken Thomas. Ken was one our students many years ago and harnessed his infectious enthusiasm for Whisk(e)y to set up that gem of a spirits indie, Arkwright’s in Highworth. Ken had not been well for some time, but managed to survive the pandemic until sadly he died about a week ago. Fran  his wife is hoping to reopen the shop in February. He has lectured for us, both on the Diploma but also to the wider membership too. Many members may have sought his advice or bought from him.

The funeral is on Wednesday 26th January. for more details click here:

  1. Jeremy Higgins says:

I learn of this with great sadness. I met Ken over 30 years ago now when he first took over a rather down at heel corner shop. The transformation that was made from that to what Arkwright’s is now is remarkable. As a former wine retailer myself I was able to help in the beginning with offering advice and encouragement but it was plain from pretty early on that Ken’s enthusiasm and knowledge was first rate and so it has been proved over the years. I know he has been ill for some time of course but that doesn’t help when an acquaintance/friend for so many years passes on. RIP Ken.
